Ministries at Grace

To make more and better disciples by sharing Jesus’ love.

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21)

Our bodies are always working.  Even when we’re sleeping, our hearts are pumping and food is being digested.  At all times, each part of the body is doing the special function for which it was designed by God.

God has brought us together at Grace to be His body, to do His work of “making more and better disciples by sharing Jesus’ love.”  In I Corinthians 12, St. Paul reminds us that we do this work best when we each do the tasks for which we were designed.  The foot can’t do the work of a hand, the eye can’t do the work of the ear, and the body of Christ will not work well if people try to do work for which they are not suited.

God gives each of us spiritual gifts to use in His service.  In 1 Timothy 4:14, God commands each of us, “Neglect not the gift that is within you.”  We are instructed to prioritize our service in those areas which utilize our unique mix of spiritual gifts.  Too many times Christians are frustrated and ineffective in their Christian service because they position themselves in areas of need, rather than areas that compliment their spiritual gifts.  Therefore it is important for each of us to know what our spiritual gifts are.

Our church can lead you though a spiritual gifts inventory quiz that may help you get a general idea of the spiritual gifts that God has given you.  Study what the Word of God teaches about these gifts and then step out and serve in areas of natural interest.  When you are in service, you give your gifts a chance to operate.  You may judge from your own enjoyment and success (or lack of one or the other!) and from the feedback of other Christians, whether or not you have found a ministry in which your gifts are well used.

This booklet contains brief job descriptions for many of the ministries handled by volunteers at Grace.  They are organized according to the core values of Grace Lutheran and represent some of the ways in which we want to give legs to what we believe to be most important in the life of the church.  Use this site to:
            - marvel at all the wonderful things volunteers are doing here
            - learn about ministries you haven’t experienced
            - see what areas spark your interest and match your gifts
            - find your special function in Christ’s body

Please understand that we are just beginning to compile the ministries that are currently in place and others we would like to see get established.  We encourage you to join us in the important task of matching our spiritual gifts with the opportunities before us.

Elaine Van Dyke, our Director of Volunteer Ministries, will be happy to take your suggestions and/or corrections to this list.
Please consider the volunteer choices listed in this booklet as a way to be obedient to our God as He commands each of us to “Neglect not the gift that is within you.”
