Facing Jesus #8 - Pilate’s Wife
Matthew Mark Luke John
Words of Jesus are underlined
We’re not given a name for Pilate’s wife, and only Matthew mentions this brief detail. How did she see Jesus? Certainly as a “righteous man.” So, in that sense, she was warning her husband not to condemn an innocent man. But she does so with a sad choice of words: “Have nothing to do with Him.”
How do you see Jesus? It’s obvious He was a righteous man, but He was so much more! Are you ready to have everything to do with Him?
Pilate Hands Jesus Over to Be Crucified
While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of him.”
(Matthew 27:19 CSB17)
Have you ever suffered in any way because of Jesus? Are you willing to?
Pilate’s wife is called “Claudia Procula” by 3rd century Christian authors and is venerated as a saint by the Eastern Orthodox church, the Coptic Church and the Ethiopian Church. Would it surprise you to think that she became a follower of Christ? How about Pilate himself? Some traditions believe that he did.
